Tesla’s new Smart Summon feature, combined with the company’s bold move to rely solely on cameras for Full Self-Driving (FSD), demonstrates their commitment to an advanced, vision-based autonomous driving future. In their latest vehicles, Tesla has replaced radar and ultrasonic sensors with a camera-only system, referred to as Tesla Vision. This camera-based approach powers both the Smart Summon feature and the entire suite of FSD capabilities, leveraging a network of eight cameras placed around the vehicle to provide a 360-degree view.

Smart Summon, which allows the vehicle to navigate parking lots and come to the owner’s location autonomously, is a showcase of Tesla’s confidence in cameras as the primary sensor.
